In 2014 we began a series of interpretation along the Durham Coast focussing on the Magnesian Limestone found here. This particular plinth was designed to carry a fossil club moss that was found in Dawdon Colliery close to Seaham.
The panel is really quite simple and is more of a visual clue as to this big lump of rock housed within the plinth. The plinth was based on a four sided cairn structure with perch seats coming off three sides. This enables the visitor to view the fossil but also shelter from the wind.
