Inside outside
Kiplin hall called us in to look at how we can tell the inside story outside. This was particularly pertinent given the Covid situation. So it was that we decided upon creating four seats surrounding the Maryland Oak tree which is hugely symbolic for Kiplin.
The four seats tell the story of the four families that have lived there over the years and made Kiplin the interesting and engaging place it is.
We are also mad keen on interpretation working hard and so not only can you sit on the signs you can also find your way around the Estate by using the wayfinding engraved onto the seats.
The back of the seats have additional engraving including the branding and the icons that represent each of the families that have created history at Kiplin.
The icons were chosen from aspects of the interior of the house that related to each of the families. We drew them and then worked on the construction drawings before supervising the construction of the timber elements.
Materials
We chose Douglas Fir for the timber elements and PrimaDura Aluminium panels for the signage elements. We installed them all on a blistering hot day in April 2021.
